mushroons - the canyon

Moving out of the canyon and into the open plain gives a feeling of anxiety and anticipation. The boundaries are well defined in the canyon with a defensive wall on three sides. The canyon gives an illusion of safety and concealment that the open plains do not afford.

In the canyon the entry and exit points are restricted to one opening. Moving out of the canyon removes the feelings of security. There is now a possibility of attack coming from every direction.

The campers built a fire at the farthest end of the canyon. The smoke evaporated at the tops of the cliffs. The sound of tumbling pebbles and falling stones is heard here and there. This serves as a reminder that everything is in a constant state of change. Even the seclusion of the canyon changes.

Birds build their nests in the cavity between rocks to secure and conceal their homes. They only venture into the open plain to gather food.

From remote times, a canyon or gorge was considered a shield of safety from predators. It also provided safety from the weather. Still, it was also seen as a trap. This trap allowed one or both to do mischief. On the other hand, the open plain is far reaching having the perception that its expanse is endless.

Herds of animal’s graze and folic in the open and youths are protected by their mother’s. The walls are the horizons in the distance. The way of escape is in any of the many directions in the open plains.

Moving out of the canyon there is a sense of adventure as a wider world comes into focus. The sound of air moving through blades of grass is one of many tones. This forms a chorus sung by the earth.

The earth speaks to those who can hear and listens to those who love and respect it. A stream of pure water is flowing. All the area’s inhabitants come to drink from it. In the canyon, nourishing water had to be brought in.

The canyon is a set pattern and way of thinking. The open plain signifies a broader way of perceiving. Both the canyon and the open plain have positives and negatives. The regenerating earth consumes and refashions both. Dust becomes a swirl in the open plain and takes on an incarnate form before it dissipates.

The wind flows to the west then changes to the east as a groundhog peeks from its shelter. In the canyon there was a feeling of isolation and controlled destiny and only one law to be followed.

Yet, in the open plain a society of one has been expanded with many rules to be honored and followed. This is the cosmopolitan universe. Everything has meaning and purpose here. One role thrives upon another. All come together as a whole.

Leaving the canyon and entering the open plain opens the mind. This mind had once lived in solitude. Trees and grasses are held as precious commodities to oxygen breathers. Water is protected and honored as the life giver that it is. Just a moment ago, the glory of the plasma furnace was on show. It was placed on pedestals of adornments. It was seen as the most exalted one.

Moving out of the canyon and into a new world of thought is frightening and wonderful. So, let wonderful be for as long as the rays of the sun provides it.
